Key Responsibilities

Equity Research & Company Coverage

• Assume responsibility for an existing portfolio of South African listed industrial companies.
• Expand research coverage across a broader industrial and consumer-focused universe.
• Develop comprehensive investment theses supported by fundamental analysis.
• Monitor market developments, sector trends, and company-specific events.

Financial Analysis & Valuation

• Build, maintain and enhance detailed financial models.
• Prepare earnings forecasts and valuation models.
• Conduct company and industry analysis using multiple valuation methodologies.
• Analyse financial statements and identify investment opportunities.

Research & Reporting

• Produce high-quality equity research reports.
• Prepare initiation reports, earnings updates and thematic research.
• Develop sector commentary and investment recommendations.
• Ensure all research is accurate, insightful and delivered within deadlines.

Client Engagement

• Present investment ideas and sector insights to institutional clients.
• Build strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
• Participate in client meetings, presentations and conference calls.
• Represent research views confidently and professionally.

Industry Engagement

• Meet with company management teams.
• Engage with industry participants and market specialists.
• Gather information to refine investment assumptions and research conclusions.

Team Collaboration

• Work closely with the Head of Research and fellow analysts.
• Contribute to a collaborative research culture.
• Share knowledge, ideas and sector insights across the broader investment team.

Minimum Requirements

• Honours Degree (or equivalent qualification) in:
  • Finance
  • Economics
  • Accounting
  • Business Science
  • Actuarial Science
  • Engineering
  • Or a related field
• Minimum 4–8 years of relevant experience in:
  • Equity Research
  • Investment Analysis
  • Asset Management
  • Investment Banking
  • Or a related analytical environment
• Previous experience analyzing listed equities (buy-side or sell-side preferred)
• Strong financial statement analysis skills
• Advanced financial modelling and forecasting experience
• Excellent company valuation skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• High level of analytical thinking and commercial awareness
• Ability to present complex investment ideas clearly and confidently

Advantageous Qualifications & Experience

• CFA qualification or active progress towards CFA designation
• Experience covering South African industrial or consumer sectors
• Previous institutional client-facing experience
• Experience using AI tools to improve research efficiency and analysis
