Principal Investment Officer Project Finance

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Principal Investment Officer Project Finance to join a leading development finance institution. This strategic role is responsible for originating, structuring and executing complex infrastructure investment transactions, driving bankability and delivering successful project finance solutions.

We are specifically seeking professionals with a proven track record of closing project finance transactions. Candidates must have hands-on execution experience, having taken transactions through the full lifecycle from due diligence and structuring to credit approval, financial close and implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Originate and develop a pipeline of bankable investment opportunities.

  • Lead project finance transactions from assessment through to financial close.

  • Conduct transaction due diligence, financial analysis and risk assessment.

  • Structure innovative financing solutions and negotiate transaction terms.

  • Prepare and present investment proposals to credit and investment committees.

  • Manage relationships with clients, investors, government stakeholders and strategic partners.

  • Lead multidisciplinary transaction teams and support successful deal execution.

Minimum Requirements

  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering or related field (MBA, CA(SA), CFA or similar advantageous).

  • Minimum 10 years experience in project finance, corporate finance or structured finance within a financial institution.

  • Demonstrated experience in originating, executing and closing transactions.

  • Strong track record of taking deals through:

    • Due diligence completion

    • Financial modelling and structuring

    • Credit approval processes

    • Legal agreement negotiations

    • Financial close and disbursement

  • Strong understanding of infrastructure markets, investment analysis and deal structuring.

  • Proven ability to engage and negotiate with senior stakeholders.
