Job Summary

Minimum Academic Qualifications: Matric certificate with Accountancy as a subject Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a similar tax compliance role Skills, Competencies, and Experience Required: Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of South African Income Tax legislation and requirements Proven ability to accurately and efficiently complete income tax returns Proficient in organising daily tasks and managing time effectively Strong planning, administrative, and reporting capabilities Ability to consistently meet deadlines Client-focused with excellent internal and external customer service skills Analytical and proactive problem-solving abilities Collaborative team player Experience: Solid experience in completing individual and company income tax returns Practical exposure to SARS processes and documentation Key Competencies: High level of numerical accuracy Excellent verbal and written communication skills Computer Literacy & Software Proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite (or equivalent such as Open Office or Lotus) Tax Planner Professional Series (Accfin) Key Duties & Responsibilities: Generate provisional tax return lists from GreatSoft for designated clients Distribute lists to relevant directors in advance for review and annotations Assist in calculating provisional tax estimates, as needed Finalise and generate provisional tax letters via eDocs and send them to clients Submit all provisional tax returns via GreatSoft upon receipt of signed documentation Prepare income tax returns based on financial statements from Audit and Bookkeeping departments Prepare income tax returns based on client-provided information (where financials are not prepared internally) Attach all required supporting documents to tax returns to reduce queries and reassessments from SARS Ensure timely lodgement of tax returns with SARS following client signature collection Address SARS queries related to submitted tax returns in consultation with relevant directors Monitor submission timelines and ensure returns are submitted promptly Apply for SARS eFiling registrations for clients when required Draft statements of assets and liabilities, capital reconciliations, and tax computations Calculate third and additional top-up tax payments as needed Oversee finalisation of verifications and audits Follow up on all payments and refunds for designated clients Ensure timely communication of payments and refund confirmations to clients via GreatSoft Reconcile SARS assessments with internal tax calculations, and escalate discrepancies to the Tax Manager Identify additional assessments and advise the Tax Manager for potential objections or motivations Maintain accurate and compliant administration in line with eFiling, GreatSoft, and eDocs systems Prepare and submit penalty remittance requests to SARS across various tax types Submit applications for tax directives as necessary Ensure compliance with the firms System of Quality Management (SOQM), internal policies, and procedures Adhere to the firms Employee Code of Conduct and the professional standards of SAICA, IRBA, and IESBA

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Tax Compliance Officer for a Renowned Company in Port Elizabeth. Purpose of the role: To ensure the correct and accurate completion of Income Tax Returns, as required by the South African Income Tax system Academic Qualifications Required: Matric with accountancy Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role Skills: Technical knowledge related to job, i.e., knowledge of South African Income Tax Consistently complete Income Tax Returns correctly and accurately Effective organisation of daily tasks (time management, planning, administration and reporting skills, meeting deadlines) Client focus – internal and external (responding to client needs, service) Problem-solving Teamwork Experience: Experience in completion of Income Tax returns Competencies: Numerical accuracy Communication (verbal and written) Required Computer Packages: Microsoft Office and/or Open Office and/or Lotus Tax Planner Professional Series (Accfin) To perform the following functions: Generation of Provisional Tax Return list from GreatSoft for Designated clients Ensure that all lists are given to relevant Directors in advance to make notes Assist with the calculation of provisional tax estimates, where required Upon finalisation of all lists, ensure provisional tax letters are generated via eDocs and sent to the client Submission of all Provisional Tax Returns via GreatSoft – upon receipt of signed letter. Ensure all provisional tax deadlines are met. Complete Income Tax returns, based on financial statements generated by the Audit and Bookkeeping Departments Complete Income Tax Returns, based on the necessary information obtained from clients, other than those for which financial statements have been prepared for by the Audit and Bookkeeping Department Attach all necessary documentary proof to the completed Income Tax returns, so as to terminate unnecessary queries and revised assessments from SARS Complete Tax returns, forward to PAs to arrange for clients’ signature, and lodge returns with SARS within the shortest possible turnaround time, all other constraints considered, so as to ensure that submission deadlines are met Deal with queries from SARS relating to Income Tax returns completed, at the discretion of the relevant director. Monitor the submission of returns for the relevant director(s) ensuring that returns which can be submitted are submitted timeouosly Application to SARS for registration of clients on eFiling, where required Drafting of statements of assets and liabilities, capital reconciliations and tax computations Calculating third and additional top-up payments when required Ensuring finalisation of all verifications or audits Follow-up on all payments and refunds due by/to designated clients on a list Ensure all payments and refund letters are sent to clients timeously via GreatSoft Checking Assessments against original and correct tax calculations to identify differences Informing the Tax Manager of any differences for possible objections Additional assessments to be identified and communicated to Tax Manager to request reasons and possibly object Controlling general administration of key duties and responsibilities and ensuring all required functions are adhered to with relation to eFiling, GreatSoft and eDocs. Performing any other tasks, which may be reasonably expected Requesting SARS to remit various penalties for various entities and tax types. Application for various tax directives. Compliance with the firm’s System of Quality Management (SOQM), policies and procedures. Compliance with the firm’s Employee Code of Conduct which consists of the firm’s HR policies, SAICA, IRBA and IESBA Codes of Conduct.
