Safety, Health & Environment Officer required for a company based in the Greater Amatola area (Eastern Cape)

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION/SKILL

  • SAMTRAC Qualification or equivalent
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act Training Certificate
  • Firefighting and emergency procedures training
  • Min 3 Years related experience in ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act in a forestry related industry
  • First aid/medical response training
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Valid drivers licence

PERSON REQUIREMENTS

  • Well-organised and meticulous, with the ability to work under pressure
  • Able to liaise comfortably within all levels of the company
  • Able to meet deadlines
  • Good verbal and written communication in business English
  • Ability to communicate in Xhosa would be advantageous
  • Good report-writing skills
  • Sound problem-solving skills
  • Thorough knowledge of health and safety systems and legal requirements, with proven implementation ability

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Provide support and guidance to Managers on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) matters within the Group
  • Investigate incidents using root cause analysis tools and compile incident reports
  • Implement, monitor and enforce compliance to OHS legislation
  • Conducting OHS audits
  • Review and update safety management systems and related training programmes
  • Monitor and report on all incidents and accidents
  • Provide first responder assistance to medical emergencies (during and after hours)
  • Compile and present Weekly, Monthly and Quarterly reports
  • Participate in workplace committees and forums
  • Assist and participate in fire-fighting operations
  • Manage emergency preparedness of sites
  • OD (Injury on Duty) mitigation and management
  • Contractor management
  • Site environmental management and compliance
  • Maintain risk registers.
