About the Role

The Head of Treaty position at Pro Tem is a senior leadership role that requires exceptional experience, skills, and strategic thinking to drive business growth and deliver high-quality client service. As part of our management team, you will be responsible for leading and managing the reinsurance broking team to achieve business objectives, while also building and maintaining strong relationships with cedants, reinsurers, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the reinsurance broking team
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow treaty business across South Africa and the broader African region
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with cedants, reinsurers, and other stakeholders
  • Oversee placement of the company’s treaty reinsurance programmes, ensuring optimal structures, pricing, and terms for clients
  • Lead high-level negotiations with reinsurers and cedants on treaty arrangements
  • Assist clients with their Reinsurance Program analysis
  • Handle and finalize renewals
  • Review and approve treaty wordings, contracts, and slips to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Oversee technical placement processes, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to deadlines
  • Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality client service and advice
  • Mentor, guide, and develop the broking team
  • Assist with client relationships and retention
  • Maintain Calendar & Client Database/s
  • Gather Information from Clients & Reinsurers for Renewal Negotiations and assist in the renewal process

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years treaty experience
  • Business Administration with focus on finance/risk management (Any of the mentioned qualifications)
  • Finance/Economics
  • Actuarial Science
  • Risk Management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field
  • Professional certifications such as Chartered Insurance Practitioner (CIP) or equivalent

Salary & Benefits

A competitive salary and benefits package will be offered to the successful candidate. The annual budget for this role will also be required.
