About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Automated Welding Specialist to join our team in Gauteng, South Africa. As a key member of our robotic welding department, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing robotic welding programs, improving cycle times, and enhancing weld quality. You will also be expected to maintain welding documentation and process standards, conduct weld inspections, and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Key Responsibilities
- Robotic Welding & Programming
- Develop, optimise, and troubleshoot robotic welding programs
- Improve cycle times, reduce waste, and enhance weld quality
- Maintain welding documentation and process standards
- Conduct weld inspections and coordinate testing
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Ensure compliance with customer standards (incl. CQI-15)
- Jigs, Fixtures & Technical Support
- Assess and improve welding jigs and fixtures
- Support tooling and product engineering teams
- Apply GD&T and dimensioning principles
- Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Act as technical lead for robotic welding
- Coach and mentor technicians and operators
- Drive Lean initiatives ( 5S, Kaizen, SMED, TPM )
- Improve OEE, reduce downtime, and control costs
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Electronic / Mechatronic / Controls Engineering (RPL applicable)
- Trade Test (mandatory)
- SAIW Level 2 Inspection
- Six Sigma Green Belt
- Minimum 7 years experience in PLC programming, controls design & fault finding
- Proven experience with Yaskawa Motoman robots and SKS welding systems
- Automotive industry experience
- Knowledge of Ford welding specifications & CQI-15
