Job Description

Description:

  • Supervise operational Accounts Payable functions and support Accounts Receivable as needed
  • Perform first-line review and approval of financial transactions on the accounting system before final posting (e.g., correct VAT treatment, correct account allocation, accuracy checks)
  • Review creditors’ reconciliations
  • Act as point of escalation for the Creditors function
  • Review VAT reconciliations and submit monthly VAT returns for all companies
  • Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and perform asset accounting and cost analysis
  • Support the finance team by preparing regular and ad hoc financial reports and statements
  • Perform accounting computations and calculations accurately, identifying potential discrepancies
  • Develop solutions to resolve discrepancies and errors
  • Conduct financial reviews and analysis and recommend appropriate corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with Tax, VAT, and SARS regulations
  • Apply accounting principles and techniques to analyse variances, assist in journal production, and perform routine accounting activities (including Cost Type, Cost Centre, and Cost Unit accounting)
  • Assist with stock-take activities across the group
  • Establish and maintain a framework of financial controls for the retail segment
  • Participate in internal and external audit preparation and processes
  • Contribute to ad hoc financial projects, including system implementations
  • Participate in group-wide projects as required


Requirements:

  • Completed Accounting Degree
  • Minimum of 3 years’ practical experience as an accountant, operational accountant, or junior financial manager
  • Experience in a retail accounting environment (highly advantageous)
  • Strong familiarity with accounting systems, with practical working experience in two or more platforms
  • Bonus: experience using Microsoft Dynamics
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, able to engage both financial and non-financial colleagues
  • Ability to create meaningful financial reports and interpret them effectively
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines without panic
  • Self-starter mindset with strong ownership, continuous improvement focus, and a drive to enhance efficiency and processes
