AWS DevOps Engineer | Johannesburg / Hybrid | Permanent Use your depth in AWS and DevOps to help build reliable, secure platforms that support better healthcare outcomes. If you are passionate about automation, cloud scalability, and meaningful impact, this role will give you both technical challenge and purpose. As the AWS DevOps Engineer, you will take ownership of designing, implementing, and optimising cloud infrastructure on AWS to support mission-critical healthcare applications. You will work across development, operations, and security to build scalable, resilient environments, automate deployments, and ensure systems run smoothly and securely. This role offers the opportunity to set standards, introduce best practices, and continuously improve how the cloud platform is managed. What You’ll Do Design, deploy, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available AWS infrastructure for healthcare applications and services. Implement and enforce security measures and best practices to ensure compliance and protect sensitive patient data. Collaborate closely with software development teams to automate build, deployment, and release processes using AWS tools and CI/CD pipelines. Optimise AWS resources, including cost, performance, and reliability, and proactively monitor system health and performance. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to infrastructure, applications, and network connectivity in production and non-production environments. Create and maintain clear documentation for infrastructure configuration, deployment patterns, installation, and troubleshooting procedures. Stay current with AWS and DevOps trends and recommend innovative solutions to improve automation, observability, and platform resilience. What You Bring Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a DevOps Engineer working extensively with AWS in production environments. Strong working knowledge of core AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda and related networking, security, and storage services. Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation to build repeatable, version-controlled environments. Solid understanding of networking concepts, security best practices, and infrastructure configuration management. Hands-on experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration in a cloud environment. Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as CloudWatch and the ELK stack, and a focus on observability. Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Bash, or PowerShell) for automation and tooling. Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Git, and configuration management tools like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet. Excellent problem-solving ability, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach to working within cross-functional teams. What Success Looks Like Stable, secure, and performant AWS environments that support high availability and reliability for healthcare applications. Well-structured IaC, CI/CD, and configuration management practices that reduce manual work and deployment risk. Clear, up-to-date documentation and runbooks that enable the wider team to understand and support the platform. Proactive monitoring and rapid issue resolution, resulting in reduced downtime and improved user experience. Strong, trusted relationships with development, security, and operations stakeholders, with you seen as the go-to person for AWS and DevOps practices.
