About the Role

The Online Content Creator is a key member of the Online news team at Newzroom Afrika, responsible for managing and updating our social media accounts, creating engaging content, and integrating with linear TV production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and regularly update Newzroom Afrika’s social media accounts.
  • Upload content, attend to followers’ sentiments and fans across various platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, WhatsApp, and/or any other relevant online platform).
  • Edit interviews and video content from the system and upload it on all Newzroom Afrika’s social media platforms.
  • Integrate social media with linear TV through production, working closely with the production team to produce and line up as required by on-air linear platforms.
  • Attend regular digital content planning, creative, and brainstorming sessions.
  • Proactively engage in innovative sessions that will take the digital department to the next level and greater heights.
  • Stay abreast of new developments in the social media space and new storytelling trends.
  • Innovate constantly, including creating a Newzroom presence on other social media platforms.
  • Select User Generated Content that can be used on-air and segment across social media platforms.
  • Save the content on Google Drive and share links with the Online Editor.
  • Create daily social media polls for different shows where required and monitor results.
  • Monitor trending topics on social media and share brief information about trending topics.
  • Find images for guests that will be used on air.
  • Research relevant news content for all online and linear platforms.
  • Ensure that the correct graphics play across all platforms.
  • Source footage from Getty Images, Gallo, and Archives.
  • Play confirmed breaking news graphics or videos across all platforms.
  • Constantly brief EPs and anchors about what content is going on air.
  • Work closely with EPs and the production team of different shows.
  • Help integrate social media with TV through production work, including producing and cueing required on-air social media content.

Requirements

  • 3 years or more experience in a newsroom environment, preferably online.
  • Three-year tertiary qualification in journalism or similar field.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to write for TV.
  • Knowledge of newsroom production systems and workflows.
  • Excellent knowledge of fact-checking processes.
  • Passion for news and current affairs.
  • Thorough knowledge of South African and international news and current affairs.
  • Good understanding of legal and ethical issues with regards to TV broadcasting.
  • An understanding of the BCCSA Code of Conduct.
  • Good grasp of English and other South African official languages.
