Job Summary
Bachelor of Engineering preferably majoring in Industrial Engineering
Certifications in Six sigma and Lean management
Preferably have master’s in operations/manufacturing/production
In-depth knowledge and experience of equipment manufacturing processes and industry trends
Familiarity with automation systems and production technologies
Preference will be for candidates with experience in operational/manufacturing excellence initiatives that drove business performance
It will be desirable for candidates to have been part of manufacturing improvement initiatives based on Six Sigma, Lean and similar frameworks for continuous improvement in a Heavy Manufacturing Industry
Experience in preparing and executing bids for bulk equipment deals
At least 15 years of experience in the equipment industry spread across OEMs and Value-Added Distributors with at least 5 years as manufacturing plant head
- Business Strategy and Market Intelligence:
As part of the senior leadership team of the organization, the GM shares responsibility for ensuring the right Vision and Mission for the organization
Translate the Vision and Mission into a comprehensive multi-year strategy for the Power Equipment business
Identify strategic opportunities to enhance revenue, improve customer satisfaction, and drive growth
Ensure KPIs are aligned to strategy
Achieves satisfactory profit ratio & market share in relation to preset standards, industry as well as economic trends
Work with internal stakeholders to analyse the market
Analysing the market by working with internal (Finance, Marketing) and external resources (market research firms, scientific researchers, OEMs)
Monitors competitor performance, understanding their business strategies
Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners.
- Business Planning, Review and Communication:
Responsible for reviewing each department budget and all decisions pertaining to capital allocation for machinery, talent acquisition, training, facilities etc
Develop and implement annual plans & forecasts to achieve business goals for products and services
Analyse and communicate rolling forecast for the complete year and review later if required any changes and submit to OEMs
Conduct monthly performance review by department and branch
Guide the preparation of action plan for each identified issue in the monthly and quarterly business performance reviews
Monitor the progress of such action plans and any special projects aimed at addressing strategically important business initiatives
Clearly communicate the strategy to direct reports and break down the strategy into meaningful action plans for each department.
- Financial Management:
GM will have complete responsibility for financial performance for the industrial business divisions
Ensure that all project bids are adhering to the financial commitments made to the Chairman agreed in the business plans
Lead discussions with Finance Director and based on the context, other business leaders, on bid or no-bid decision process
Set up cross-functional teams to oversee bid preparation for bids major projects
- Sales and Relationship Management:
Ensure that the sales process is adhering to the best practices in line with achieving the best customer experience
Work with IT to ensure a smooth digital guided selling process is available
Plan based on the agreed strategy the annual (exhibition and networking) events calendar keeping in mind the participation by competition and the target audience
Monitor and investigate deviations from SLAs for resolution of customer inquiries and complaints
Provide consultative support to clients throughout the customer lifecycle
Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts.
- Operational Excellence:
Responsible for leading the discussions on Operational Excellence strategy
Communicating the strategy to the other divisions and support functions
Ensuring business plans are drawn as well as revised based on the operational excellence goals
Must focus on streamlining the manufacturing operations by constantly setting new benchmarks, relying on scientifically proven techniques, and translating the benchmarks to goals for each manager
Work closely with internal (Supply Chain, Finance, Quality Assurance, IT, Marketing) and external stakeholders (suppliers and customers) to ensure a coordinated organization-wide effort in achieving operational excellence programs.
- Quality Management
Ensure a proactive approach to quality management through a process-based approach
Evaluate and ensure quality performance metrics are aligned with operations
Monitor quality performance reports and identify key areas of improvement
Collaborate with Quality team to ensure all key quality concerns are improved through scientific and proven quality process improvements.
- Workforce and Talent Management:
Collaborate with HR on annual workforce planning exercise based on the revised strategy and business plans
Work with department heads to understand specific staffing needs
Identify critical positions and ensure clear succession plans for such positions
Identify high-potential employees and ensure their development as well as growth within the organization
Participate in selection processes for key positions within the division
Identify the important technical competence gaps and work with Training department to ensure that training programs are designed and scheduled to address these gaps
Review effectiveness of training programs along with the department managers and provide constructive feedback in writing to Training Department
Collaborate with HR and Training to design and champion the talent management initiatives
- Health, Safety & Environment
Lead by example in prioritizing health, safety and environmentally sustainable business practices
Collaborate with QHSE to improve existing standards and ensure that all departments are audited regularly
Work with HSE Team and Training in having sufficient number of refresher courses and new employee orientation based on HSE risks linked to the job
Work with HSE Team and HR in ensuring that there are reward programs are in place to encourage safety initiatives
Adhere to all SDEC Health, Safety, And Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and legal requirements
Promptly identify and report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses to the appropriate supervisor or QHSE team
Attend and actively participate in mandatory Safety inductions, HSE trainings, safety meetings, and emergency drills
Follow established emergency response procedures, including evacuation plans, fire response, and first aid, if trained
Review with QHSE Function Head the protocols to minimize environmental impact, including proper waste disposal and reporting spills or leaks and the suggestions to enhance Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and take responsibility and initiatives for continual improvement.
- Works with: Finance Director; General Manager, Peax; Director, Switchgear; heads of all support functions
- External Relations: Key Executives at OEMs; Executives who are part of Decision-Making Unit (DMU) with marquee customers; Top executives at major suppliers and sub-contractors
- Authority over following Departments: Sales-Power-SDEC, IO-Contracts – SDEC, IO-Engineering-SDEC, IO-Procurement-SDEC, IO-Production-SDEC, IO-Testing-SDEC
- Basic – SR 50,000 per month
- Housing and Transportation – Company provided
- Round trip ticket for candidate and family to home country once per year
