Job Description
- Matric (Grade 12)
- 2–4 years’ experience in an FMCG manufacturing environment
- Proven hands-on experience operating high-speed packaging lines (bottling, canning, kegging, labelling, palletising)
- Technical or mechanical courses (advantageous)
- Sound knowledge of quality standards, food safety, and hygiene requirements
- Proven ability to meet production targets and work under pressure
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Operational Responsibilities
- Set up packaging lines in accordance with production schedules and product specifications
- Perform equipment start-ups, changeovers, and shutdowns
- Monitor equipment performance and provide feedback on machine efficiency and material usage
- Ensure continuous product flow and minimize downtime
- Conduct basic machine adjustments and first-line troubleshooting
- Verify machine readiness prior to start-up
- Maintain housekeeping standards within the designated work area
Quality & Food Safety
- Conduct routine quality checks, including fill levels, closures, labels, coding, and packaging integrity
- Ensure correct use of PPE and adherence to waste segregation requirements
- Comply with food safety standards and the Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) Act
- Identify, report, and escalate quality deviations immediately
- Maintain a clean, hygienic packaging line and work area at all times
Health & Safety
- Operate machinery safely and report any unsafe conditions or practices
- Participate in safety meetings, audits, and toolbox talks
Administrative & Team Responsibilities
- Accurately complete production documentation, downtime logs, and quality records
- Communicate effectively with team members, shift leaders, and maintenance teams
- Support team objectives and assist with the training and development of junior operators when required
