Job Title: Credit Underwriting Manager Department: Credit Risk Reporting to: Head of Credit Underwriting Job Purpose: This role involves being part of the global Credit Risk team, providing credit risk advisory, reporting, and macro-economic analysis for the oil marketing division. The successful candidate will manage and mentor a team of Underwriting Analysts while overseeing the credit risk process. This includes conducting credit risk assessments, portfolio management, and ensuring compliance with key performance indicators (KPIs). The position requires expertise in handling complex credit structures, asset valuations, and a variety of atypical credit risks in a global portfolio. Primary Tasks & Key Responsibilities: Team Management: Oversee a team of Credit Underwriting Analysts, offering day-to-day support and guidance. Credit Assessments: Conduct limit and rating setting, as well as re-assessments for a specific portfolio within the global oil marketing division. Financial Analysis: Perform detailed financial analysis, including spreading financial data and assessing the credit risk appetite. Portfolio Management: Take responsibility for more complicated reviews involving asset valuations and financial structures (e.g., investments, loans, and assets). Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor portfolio triggers, escalate issues as necessary, and report on credit risk performance and sector trends. Sovereign & Sector Analysis: Provide in-depth analysis on the relevant sovereigns and sectors. Macro-economic Analysis: Produce and present macro-economic insights and commentary for the portfolio. Cross-functional Reporting: Manage global oil credit risk reporting and communication with senior stakeholders. Stakeholder Relations: Build strong relationships with senior management and the commercial credit team. Project Involvement: Participate in local and global credit-related projects. Key Relationships: Credit teams (London, New York, and Singapore) Senior Risk Management teams Other risk functions Qualifications: Bachelors Degree (preferably in finance, risk management, accounting, economics, or business studies). Post-graduate qualifications are beneficial. Relevant certifications (e.g., Chartered Accountant, Chartered Financial Analyst, and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) are a plus. Work Experience & Skill Requirements: Minimum 8 years of experience in credit risk/credit underwriting within mining, commodity trading, banking, insurance, or consultancy. Financial analysis experience is advantageous. Proficiency in coding (e.g., VBA, Power BI, and Python) is a plus. Competencies: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work independently and as part of a rapidly changing team. Exceptional time management and multi-tasking abilities. High attention to detail and data accuracy. Numerate with strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Proactive, committed, and highly motivated.
