Job Description
- Provide a high quality service that meets the needs of patients, referrers and funders
- Complete patient assessments in line with policies and procedures
- Develop, review and modify treatment plans as patient conditions change
- Use hand therapy resources efficiently and effectively
- Seek advice and collaborate with other hand therapists when required
- Monitor patient treatment numbers and progress
- Submit timely requests for further treatment approvals such as ACC 32s
- Ensure patients are informed of any surcharges or additional charges
Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others
- Actively maintain up to date knowledge of health and safety procedures and policies
- Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and workplace requirements
- Identify, report and assist in managing hazards, risks, incidents and near misses
- Consult with managers or health and safety representatives to mitigate risks
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong patient focus with a warm, engaging and empathetic approach
- High level of professionalism aligned with professional registration standards
- Clear, proactive and effective communication with patients and team members
- Strong prioritisation skills with the ability to maintain high quality outcomes
- Confidence using practice management systems and Microsoft Office
- Sound understanding of patient privacy, confidentiality and data protection
Qualifications and Memberships
- Qualified Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist registered with the relevant New Zealand Board
- Current Annual Practising Certificate
- Member of the relevant professional body such as PNZ or OTNZ-WNA
- Member of or willingness to join Hand Therapy New Zealand
Experience
- Experience in a similar role, ideally with exposure to upper limb conditions
- Strong background in patient focused clinical environments
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a wider supportive team
Role Limitations
- Work within the limits of your own knowledge, skills and experience
- Practise within your professional scope and the standards of Hand Therapy New Zealand
