About the Role
King Price Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Intermediate SQL Database Administrator to join our team in Pretoria. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for safeguarding, optimizing, and ensuring the availability of our enterprise databases across on-premises and cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Performing database maintenance including backups, restoring databases from various recovery models, indexes, and statistics
- Testing and implementation of all upgrades when required, reproducing issues and reporting it to all relevant parties
- Creating and maintaining documentation of guidelines, policies, and other database details
- Maintaining security and access control related to the databases as well as related applications, following protocols, recommending, and implementing new security rules
- Maintaining database architecture and schemas as well as ensuring data consistency (DBCC CHECK)
- Troubleshooting issues with data and processes, identifying the origin, and providing support to resolve issues either server related, or isolated to a specific user or group
- Monitoring performance, implementing improvements, and identifying shortcomings
- Keeping up to date on support for database engine versions, deprecations, and possible version incompatibility with other software
- Communicating with vendors and external service providers and monitoring performance, support, and turnaround time in line with agreements
- Ensuring compliance with external policies and laws regarding data security, distribution, and retention
- Ensuring data availability and disaster recovery by use of high availability systems both replication and Always On
Requirements
- Experience with SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machine
- Knowledge of Azure SQL Databases, Azure SQL Managed Instances
- Familiarity with database security and access control
- Understanding of performance optimization techniques
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
