Our Client in the Saldanha area is seeking the skills of candidates with Safety experience/ Construction regulation experience / Contract Management experience / Familiar with the issue on different work permits – to start immediately. Its imperative that candidates are Registered: Compulsory registration with SACPCMP as a Safety Officer (for construction work purposes) or any higher registered designation. Main Job Purpose The OHS Practitioner acts as a facilitator and advisor to employees and management regarding safety and health aspects in the workplace including the monitoring and inspecting of the workplace, identify hazards and assess risks, put appropriate safety controls in place, the recording and investigation of incidents and accidents and provides advice on accident prevention. Additionally, the OHS Practitioner will be responsible for the coordination of health and safety systems within the Company. Essential Duties and Responsibilities . Ensure compliance of the project with relevant OHS legislation and the Construction Regulations. Promote, monitor, and implement occupational health and safety standards and policies within the organisation and develop safer and healthier ways of working. Continuously develop, implement, and improve the H&S plans, programmes, and procedures in the workplace. Make sure that personal protective equipment (PPE) is being used in workplaces according to regulations. Ensure necessary OHS and Construction Regulation documentation is submitted to the relevant authorities. Conducting safety inspections and risk assessments as required by the project. Identification of the hazards and risks relevant to the construction project through regular coordinated site inspections. Testing the effectiveness of the emergency response plans. Conduct site safety inductions. Help supervise the investigation of accidents and unsafe working conditions, study possible causes and recommend remedial action. Identify ALL OHS-related training needs in the workplace. Conduct training sessions for management, supervisors and workers on health and safety practices and legislation. Oversee the maintenance of all OHS records. Assist with the rehabilitation of workers after accidents or injuries and make sure they experience a satisfactory return to work. Coordinate emergency procedures, firefighting and first aid crews. Communicate frequently with management to report on the status of the occupational health and safety program. Assist in the preparation of project specific health and safety documentation for distribution to contractors for inclusion into their tender submissions. Assist with the evaluation of the contractor(s) competencies, knowledge and resources to carry out the works safely. Assist with the preparation of contract documentation related to health and safety requirements for approval and signature. Prepare the consolidated project health and safety file for the client. Wellness specialist in the company and to educate the workforce on how to improve their daily choices, prevent illness or access local resources. Education & Experience (minimum requirements to perform the job) School : Grade 12 Programmes in Occupation Health and Safety (NQF 5) Learnership Certificates in Construction Health and Safety Management: National Diploma in Safety Management BTECH in Safety Management Job related: MS Office (especially Outlook, Word & Excel). Registration: Compulsory registration with SACPCMP as a Safety Officer (for construction work purposes) or any higher registered designation. Additional registration with SAIOSH or IOSH beneficial but not required. Added benefit if certified as Fall Protection Planners Experience: At least 3-5 years experience as a Health & Safety Officer in construction. Experience with Contractor Management 37 (2) Agreements and Auditing is essential.
