We are looking to employ an experienced Assistant to the Golf Course Superintendent for this prestigious course. The ideal candidate will have an overriding enthusiasm and passion for this work, coupled with credible and evident successes that supports his / her journey to the next step in their career. In your capacity as Assistant to the Golf Course Superintendent you will, as an extension of the Superintendent, be co-responsible for the quality of the course maintenance and conditioning, the planning and financial management of the course maintenance needs, equipment, supplies and stockholding, plus the people management and overall member satisfaction. We consider the following as essential: Qualifications: valid drivers license, grade 12, formal tertiary Turfgrass Management qualification (certificate level), formal Pest Control qualification. Experience & Knowledge: minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership / management role, experience with expense budgets, processes and controls (with exposure to annual budgeting and strategic planning); experience in people development, diversity management and related personnel management efficiencies; plus a working knowledge of current labour and other relevant legislation. Knowledge of raw materials, processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective utilisation of resources. Knowledge of and experience on the maintenance of bendgrass greens. Knowledge of and experience in the management of native grasses / scrub. Knowledge of and experience in the application of pest control substances / measures and the calibration of relevant equipment. Must be able to fully operate an automated irrigation system, linked to a weather station. Must be computer literate in normal MS Office packages. Skills & Abilities: strong leadership and interpersonal skills, effective communicator (active listening, social perceptiveness, effectively conveying information verbally and in written form, etc.) effective coaching and mentoring skills; effective as a teacher, developer and motivator of people, results orientated / taking ownership – effective at monitoring performance of yourself, other individuals, or elements impacting on the work, to make improvements or take corrective action pro-actively, considering information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems. Critical thinking (logical problem solving), Mathematical reasoning ability, Time management / can plan and prioritise, Effective negotiator can bring people together Effective decision maker can identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions; can consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. Active Learning Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making. Systems Evaluation Identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system.
