Job Summary
Division: Wastewater Genomics Main purpose of the job: To conduct laboratory workflow on an environmental surveillance initiative including but not limited to collection, receipt, pre-processing, testing, long term storage and all associated record keeping of wastewater samples for SARS-coV-2, Hepatitis A&E, Influenza A&B, measles and other communicable diseases under, and ear-marked for surveillance Location: NICD, Sandringham, Johannesburg Key performance areas: Collect wastewater samples using correct protocols from field sites as directed by senior staff, as and when directed to do so Liaise with sample collectors at remote sites to ensure sampling consumables are continuously replenished, and issues that may disrupt the sampling schedule are addressed timeously Manage the flow of samples from receipt to discarding Receive and prepare human and environmental wastewater samples prior to analysis to ensure suitability for specific tests to be carried out Carry out routine testing procedures under the direction of the senior scientist & general supervision of other senior qualified staff on human and wastewater samples to obtain accurate results and troubleshooting where necessary Input data and results into databases and the LIMS system for subsequent review and authorisation Maintain quality assurance processes as per accreditation requirements Observe health and safety regulations whilst working to always ensure safety of others and oneself Required minimum education and training Grade 12 Required minimum work experience: Minimum of 1 years working experience in a medical laboratory Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities: HPCSA registration would be advantageous One-year post-registration as a Medical Technician in a medical laboratory Computer literacy with experience in using MS Excel and Outlook Must have a valid drivers license Knowledge of health and safety regulations, quality control and assurance procedures Trouble shooting skills in laboratory processes are essential Methodical and meticulous record keeping and filing Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork, self-awareness, patience and willingness to learn TO APPLY: Only if you meet the minimum job requirements and experience as mentioned above, you may submit a detailed updated CV Please Apply Online and complete your registration via our website to enable and protect you as a candidate, and to accept the new POPIA terms and conditions This will then create your permanent profile with which you can apply for all jobs as advertised by AJ PERSONNEL However, you may remove your profile from AJ PERSONNEL when you are no longer in the job market Please take note that the applicants who do not adhere to the above criteria will not be considered for the respective position Wits Health Consortium will only respond to shortlisted candidates Candidates who have not been contacted within two weeks of the closing date can consider their applications to be unsuccessful Closing date: 16 May 2025 Note: No CV will be accepted after the closing date.
