Our client a dynamic vibrant company supplying the building industry with aggregates, readymix and precast elements (hollowcore and stairs) are recruiting a Quarry Manager

The person will take charge of a granite open cast mine as well as a sand mine. This position reports to the Operational Manager.

Responsibilities will include but is not limited to the following:

• General managing of the day-to-day operations, which will include adherence to Health & Safety protocols
• Production Efficiency by ensuring that the daily targets are met, action on issues when arise (such as plant or fleet breakdowns, staff absentees, incidents, technical issues, client complaints etc.)
• Arrange and plan for drilling and blasting
• Ensure machinery is properly maintained, and being operated according to stipulated legal requirements and safety standards
• Ensure maintenance schedules are properly managed which includes proper preventative maintenance planning
• Take responsibility of the quality of material produced
• Manage, prepare for and facilitate monthly DMRE inspections ensure compliance
• Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act
• Ensure compliance of the mines Environmental Management Programme (EMP)
• Report and action incidents according to procedure and assist with investigation and resolution
• Manage, follow up and close out client queries and complaints and keep clients in the loop (provide continuous feedback)

Minimum Requirements:

• Examine and Make Safe qualification
• Open cast blasting ticket
• NQF5 will be a bonus
• Excellent management and customer service skills
• Minimum 5 years experience in relevant technical, production and planning fields
• Excellent communication, problem solving and team management skill

Salary & hours

• This position offers a market-related salary – dependent on previous experience and qualifications.
• Employees become members of a provident fund after their probation period.
• The annual close down is in December/January during the builders holiday.
• Working hours are from 07:00 to 17:30, but only until 15:00 on a Friday.
