Job Description

Madhlopa & Thenga Inc is a well-established legal practice seeking a Junior Attorney to join its Litigation Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing litigation matters, drafting legal documents, and appearing in court where required. This role suits a driven attorney capable of managing files with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing litigation matters from inception to finalization

• Drafting pleadings, notices, affidavits, and legal correspondence

• Defending and litigating matters, including bank-related litigation

• Attending court appearances and consultations with clients and counsel

• Liaising with opposing attorneys, advocates, and stakeholders

• Maintaining accurate file management and meeting deadlines

Minimum Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa

• 13 years post-admission experience in litigation

• Proven experience litigating or defending matters

• Strong preference for candidates with experience defending matters involving Standard Bank

• Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• Based in or able to commute to Parktown North, Johannesburg

We are seeking a dedicated and results-driven Junior Attorney to join our Germiston office. The ideal candidate will be an admitted legal practitioner with 23 years of post-admission experience, particularly within the areas of Municipal Debt Recoveries, Civil and Commercial Litigation, and Municipal Litigation. This role requires a proactive individual who can handle pressure, manage multiple matters independently, and deliver work aligned with our service level agreements and legal milestones.

Key Requirements:

• Admitted Attorney with 23 years post-admission legal practice experience.

• Computer literate with strong working knowledge of legal software and Microsoft Office.

• Proven experience in Municipal Debt Legal Recoveries.

• In-depth understanding of the National Credit Act.

• Solid experience in General Civil and Commercial Litigation, including Magistrates Court and High Court procedures.

• Strong understanding of Municipal Litigation processes, including:

  • Section 129 Notices

  • Drafting and Issuing Summons

  • Applying for Default Judgments

  • Execution processes (Warrant of Execution, Attachments, etc.)

• Awareness and appreciation of key milestones and SLA compliance.

• Must be hardworking, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
