About the Role
Communicate Finance is seeking an experienced Actuarial Assumption & Model Development Validation Specialist to join our team in Johannesburg North. As a key member of our Actuarial Function, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and validity of our actuarial assumptions and model outputs. With a strong technical background in Prophet modeling, IFRS 17, and SAM valuation principles, you will play a critical role in validating our long contract boundary models and conducting high-level reviews of annual results.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and execute assumption and model review workplans.
- Review key actuarial assumptions (including lapses, mortality, expenses) used in long contract boundary models.
- Pressuretest contract boundary assumptions across IFRS 17 and SAM environments.
- Perform independent validation of Prophet models (gross and financial reinsurance) for IFRS 17 and SAM.
- Review model outputs including ORSA projections.
- Validate IBNR triangulations and related methodologies.
- Conduct high-level review of IFRS 17 and SAM annual results.
- Document and communicate all validation findings to Balance Sheet Management and relevant stakeholders.
Requirements
- 10 years postqualification actuarial experience, with at least 5 years in senior validation, modelling, or assumption governance.
- Strong technical expertise in Prophet model development, IFRS 17 and SAM valuation principles, financial reinsurance mechanics, and ability to lead complex actuarial validation activities independently.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Qualifications
- Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (FASSA) — Life Fellowship preferred.
- Life Practising Certificate (advantageous).
