Job Description

Mid-Level Back-End PHP Developer (Remote South Africa) An established global technology organization is seeking a Mid-Level Back-End PHP Developer to join its growing engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with modern frameworks, scalable applications, and a collaborative, forward-thinking technical team. Youll play a key role in building and maintaining back-end systems that power high-impact digital products used by clients around the world. What Youll Do: Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs and back-end services using PHP (Laravel or similar frameworks). Collaborate closely with Front-End Developers, QA Engineers, and product teams to deliver quality solutions. Develop and manage MySQL databases, ensuring efficient schema design and performant queries. Write clean, testable code that follows industry best practices. Integrate with third-party APIs and external data providers. Participate in code reviews, contribute to continuous improvement, and support deployment processes. Troubleshoot and optimize application performance and scalability. What Youll Bring: 3 years of professional experience in back-end PHP development. Strong understanding of OOP , MVC architecture , and modern PHP frameworks (Laravel preferred). Solid experience with MySQL (query optimization, schema design, and migrations). Proficiency with Git and collaborative version control workflows. Experience working with REST APIs , JSON , and XML . Familiarity with unit/feature testing in PHP. Working knowledge of Redis , RabbitMQ , or similar queue/caching tools. Exposure to Docker or containerized development environments. Basic understanding of Vue.js , React , or similar front-end technologies. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments. Bonus: Experience integrating with financial APIs or working in secure data environments . Location & Requirements: Remote role Open to candidates based anywhere in South Africa with a reliable fibre internet connection (minimum 100 Mbps).
