Job Description

Junior Safety Officer Mid-Career (2 – 4 yrs exp) | Contractor Reporting to: Operations Location: Germiston- Eastern Suburbs Purpose of the Role To assist the Safety Department with implementing and maintaining health and safety systems, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, and promoting safe working practices in a high-risk foundry environment. Key Responsibilities Assist with daily safety inspections and workplace audits Identify hazards and report unsafe acts/conditions Support the implementation of HSE policies, procedures, and legal compliance Assist with incident/accident investigations and corrective action tracking Conduct toolbox talks and safety awareness sessions Ensure PPE compliance and correct usage on site Assist with risk assessments and safe work procedures (SWPs) Support contractor safety management and induction processes Maintain safety files, registers, checklists, and inspection reports Assist with emergency preparedness and drills (fire, first aid, evacuation) Promote safety culture across all departments Minimum Requirements Matric (Grade 12) Basic computer literacy (MS Office) Strong communication and report-writing ability Willingness to work in an industrial/foundry environment Preference (Advantage) NOSA SAMTRAC or relevant Safety qualification Previous experience in a foundry (highly beneficial) Knowledge of OHS Act and basic compliance requirements First Aid Level 1 and Fire Fighting certificates (advantage) Key Competencies Strong observation and hazard identification skills High attention to detail and record keeping Professionalism and confidence to engage workers and supervisors Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong safety mindset and commitment to compliance
