Overview
My Client an international industrial house, with substantial annual turnover engaged in diverse operations in Uganda and East Africa, is looking for a Factory / Works Manager to oversee its very large sugar complex on one of the Largest Sugar Estates / Factory Plants in Africa. The sugar factory has been expanded steadily and is currently operating at a crushing capacity of 7,500 Tons Cane per Day [“TCD”] during a 10.5 month crushing season. It generates 50MW and 30MW of this is exported to the national grid. In addition to sugar and power produced, the group has a distillery which produces 65 000 litres rectified spirits a day. A small confectionery factory within the complex also produces a variety of sweets and toffees and other confectionery items

My Client would like to consider Ex- Pat applicants : Indian Nationals or British (European) candidates – preferably with work Experience in East Africa , West Africa or Southern African Region ( Zambia , Mozambique, Malawi , Tanzania )
Remuneration
- Basic Salary: Very Substantial US$ package negotiable – paid offshore

Candidate Requirements
Past Experience should include.
- Experience as a General Manager Sugar Manufacturing Plant and sub departments
- Experience as a Factory Manager / Works manager Sugar manufacturing plant
- Experience as a Process / Production Manager
- Engineering Manager preferable Mechanical engineering / Chemical Engineering
- Milling
- Boilers
- Distilling management
- Experience of co-generation
- Power generation
- Candidate will be reporting in to the GM / Business Head
The following personnel will report into the successful incumbent: Senior Executive General Manager

The successful incumbent will be the head of all Sugar complex operations, and will be responsible for:
Requirements :
The incumbent should be a Mechanical Engineering graduate ( or Similar) / a sugar technologist, with a minimum of +/- 20 years of similar experience in a sugar manufacturing unit.
Specification / Brief
Administer Sugar factory, warehousing processes, and safety protocols according to existing guidelines and procedures in order to comply with the company’s objectives.
Reporting to Business Head the incumbent will be the Head of Sugar complex operations, will be responsible for:
- Day to day operations of the Sugar complex.
- Supervise the production process (including mill operation) in order to comply with the production requirements.
- Supervise the factory maintenance plan in order to prevent operations disruption.
- Supervise expenses in order to comply with the budget.
- Control and analyze KPIs and reports for decision making.
- Propose and supervise process improvements as needed in the Factory to improve operational efficiency.
- Supervise work safety plans in order to comply with company procedures and government regulations.
- Supervise the Human Talent under supervision responsibility to support ensure talent growth
- Establish annual targets for factory operations and achieving them.
- Budgeting both revenue, and capital expenditure, and monitoring periodically the performance of various sections. Reporting the deviation to the management and the course corrections action is taken.
- Preparation and timely submission of Reports Executive Management.
- Planning and managing sugar complex preventive / predictive maintenance activities to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Improved productivity by bringing in world-class manufacturing practices.
- Liaise and coordinate with section/department heads for the smooth running of the factory.
- Dealing with union representatives for employee / administrative matters.
- Maintaining workplace discipline and training of local staff.
- Co-ordinate with the projects team for project expansion/construction works.
