About the Role
Kendrick Recruitment is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager for a world-class luxury safari reserve in the Kalahari. This is a hands-on leadership role in a remote environment, responsible for maintaining all infrastructure, utilities, equipment, and staff/guest areas to the highest standards, while ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the maintenance team, including training, task allocation, and performance oversight
- Maintain all buildings, guest areas, staff housing, and reserve facilities, ensuring high standards and quick turnaround on repairs
- Oversee critical utilities and systems, including water (boreholes/pumps), power supply (generators/solar where applicable), and sewage systems
- Implement and manage preventative maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and avoid service interruptions
- Manage contractors and suppliers, ensuring quality work, cost control, and compliance
- Drive health, safety, and environmental compliance, with strong audit readiness and incident response
- Assist with operational emergency response when required (remote setting readiness)
- Budgeting, cost control, procurement oversight, and reporting for the maintenance department
Requirements
- Relevant trade qualification (Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, Building, or similar)
- Minimum 5 years’ maintenance management experience, within luxury lodges (preferred), or luxury hospitality operations
- Strong all-round technical ability with proven fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Solid understanding of remote site infrastructure, utilities, and contractor management
- Strong leadership and team management experience
- Valid driver’s licence essential
- Computer literacy (MS Office and basic reporting; maintenance systems advantageous)
