About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Candidate Attorney / Candidate Legal Practitioner with a strong passion for family law to join our team in Cape Town City Centre. The ideal candidate will have completed their LLB degree, be registrable as a Candidate Legal Practitioner with the Legal Practice Council, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research on legislation, case law, and legal principles relevant to all family law matters
- Draft pleadings, affidavits, notices, settlement agreements, parenting plans, and correspondence
- Assist with drafting heads of argument and court-ready documents
- Prepare trial bundles, chronologies, and court files
- Attend consultations with counsel and assist in briefing
- Attend client consultations, take instructions, and assist with managing client expectations in sensitive and often high-conflict matters
- Maintain professional, empathetic, and ethical client communication
- Attend court proceedings regularly
- Appear in the Magistrates Court, Regional Court, and other lower courts once entitled to a right of appearance
- Manage and maintain case files and diaries
Requirements
- Completed LLB degree
- Registrable as a Candidate Legal Practitioner with the Legal Practice Council
- Valid driver’s license and own vehicle
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Afrikaans will be an advantage
- Sound computer literacy (MS Word, Outlook, Excel)
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple matters
