About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Candidate Attorney / Candidate Legal Practitioner with a strong passion for family law to join our team in Cape Town City Centre. The ideal candidate will have completed their LLB degree, be registrable as a Candidate Legal Practitioner with the Legal Practice Council, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research on legislation, case law, and legal principles relevant to all family law matters
  • Draft pleadings, affidavits, notices, settlement agreements, parenting plans, and correspondence
  • Assist with drafting heads of argument and court-ready documents
  • Prepare trial bundles, chronologies, and court files
  • Attend consultations with counsel and assist in briefing
  • Attend client consultations, take instructions, and assist with managing client expectations in sensitive and often high-conflict matters
  • Maintain professional, empathetic, and ethical client communication
  • Attend court proceedings regularly
  • Appear in the Magistrates Court, Regional Court, and other lower courts once entitled to a right of appearance
  • Manage and maintain case files and diaries

Requirements

  • Completed LLB degree
  • Registrable as a Candidate Legal Practitioner with the Legal Practice Council
  • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Afrikaans will be an advantage
  • Sound computer literacy (MS Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple matters

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
