Job Description

As Operations Manager within the Logistics/Transport space, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a smooth operation of the Transportation Department that helps provide 24 hour coverage of drivers and the fleet. Provides general supervision of all tranposrtation drivers and administrative staff. Primary responsibility is to make sure that all scheduled employees are on the job at the start of the shift or at the scheduled dispatch time. This position involves the planning, directing and coordination of all delivery and backhaul activities, and must keep the service delivery moving smoothly, accurately and efficiently. This position is based in Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, with a dynamic company with big plans for the future. Requirements: Matric – relevant tertiary qualification and courses advantageous Computer savvy Previous relevant experience between 3 – 5 years Ability to understand Code 14 passenger vehicle Duties: Lead team Report any accidents or unsafe conditions to the Fleet Maanger and the Safety Manager Be responsible for compliance and knowledge with Department of Transportation regulations and other safety standards Coordinate with Fleet being scheduled is that in a safe and working order in accordance with company and governmental standards Keep all mistakes and waste to a minimum and check to make sure that routes are properly set up Maintain effective and timely scheduling of Supervisors, Regulators and Drivers, current week and following week schedules should always be posted with a working copy available by request for the next week Facilitate communication within the management team and between the Operations team and management Monitor all scheduled tasks to insure that they are efficiently completed Provide training as needed Enforce general company policies and issuance of coaching/disciplinary documentation to Operational staff, and general IR issues Responsible for productivity data including but not limited to load rates, routes and timely scheduling of all routes for “on-line” departures and arrivals Staff Management Operations SOP and Procedures Assist Management with research and development of new techniques and procedures to increase the efficiency of any transportation operation Assist with various projects Preparing annual budgets and reports concerning the operation costs and present to Management Board Interacts with approved and authorised subcontractors and reports subcontracted work and costs for reconciliation and regular reviews by Operational Director Oversee that the scheduling of drivers hours is compliant with the statutory requirements set for the industry, ensures all driver pdp’s and licenses are controlled and up to date Ensure that effective contingency plans are established and that thorough handovers are conducted in his/her absence Adhere to Vision and Mision Ensures active and continual control of the operational system and advises drivers/supervisors in the event of an emergency Oversee the safety of his/her subordinates in the behicles and areas of work Promotes effective communication by holding regular meetings with drivers and supervisors in accordance to the QMS Identifies areas of risk or improvement and proactively discusses such with executive level Ensures effective support to the Fleet department to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and safe to be driven and ensures subordinates are reporting faults in accordance to the system Cleint/Customer briefings and meetings to discuss challenges On site – inspections Monitoring transport cost Knowledge: 3-5 years experience in all facets of passenger transportation systems Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals and inter-company memos and outside correspondence Have 2-3 years of accounting, planning and analytical and/or reporting experience Ability to read, analyse and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures Understanding of financial statements and resulting cost implications Knowledge of logistics systems Good numerical skills with an analytical mind If this sounds like you, this exciting position might just be yours.
