About the Role
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Secretary to join our team in Cape Town. As a Commercial / Civil Litigation Legal Secretary, you will be responsible for providing administrative support to attorneys and managing litigation files. You will also be required to draft court pleadings, notices, affidavits, summonses, and commercial agreements, as well as manage filing of court documents via relevant court systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting, formatting, and preparing court pleadings, notices, affidavits, summonses, and commercial agreements
- Managing filing of court documents via relevant court systems and ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines
- Diary management for attorneys, including court dates, consultations, and deadlines
- Liaising with clients, counsel, sheriffs, messengers, and court officials in a professional manner
- Managing litigation files (physical and electronic), ensuring accurate indexing and record keeping
- Preparing and managing trial bundles, discovery files, and pagination
- Attending to billing, time capturing, invoicing, and follow-ups on outstanding accounts
- Opening, maintaining, and closing client files in accordance with firm procedures
Requirements
- Matric, plus relevant legal qualification
- A sound understanding of High Court litigation processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Experience in commercial agreements
- Strong organisational, communication, and administrative skills
- The ability to work independently
