About the Role
The Mechanical Supervisor position is a permanent opportunity based in Cape Town, with a focus on managing and leading mechanical maintenance activities on shift. We are seeking an experienced candidate to join our team, preferably from heavy industrial, steelmaking, or similar environments such as ArcelorMittal, Scaw Metals, Cape Gate, Highveld Steel, or large continuous-process plants where mechanical reliability and safety are critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and lead mechanical maintenance activities on shift
- Supervise fitters and plan maintenance activities to ensure plant availability
- Ensure safety compliance and equipment reliability in a high-risk environment
- Conduct breakdown response, fault-finding, and heavy industrial equipment repairs
Requirements
- 5+ years of mechanical experience in the steel industry (melt shop, furnaces, rolling mills, heavy machinery, cranes, rigging equipment)
- Proven experience supervising artisans in a high-risk, high-temperature and continuous-production environment
- Strong background in mechanical maintenance, breakdown response, fault-finding and heavy industrial equipment repairs
Qualifications
- Trade Test: Fitter & Turner (essential)
- Experience with crane and rigger-related mechanical maintenance (essential)
