Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the preparation and review of tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts, and other entities (including VAT, PAYE, Provisional Tax, and Income Tax).
  • Provide high-level tax consulting and advisory services, including tax planning, structuring, and compliance advice to clients.
  • Conduct thorough tax research and stay up to date with changes in tax legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and potential risks, delivering value-added recommendations.
  • Review SARS assessments and handle objections, appeals, and disputes.
  • Liaise and negotiate with SARS on behalf of clients.
  • Assist with SARS audits, verifications, and reviews.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical support to junior tax staff.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring client satisfaction and retention.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments, including audit and accounting, to provide integrated client solutions.

Requirements

  • BCom Degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related field (essential).
  • Postgraduate qualification in Taxation (e.g., HDip Tax or Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation) is highly advantageous.
  • Registered Tax Practitioner status with SARS.
  • Minimum 4-6 years experience in tax consulting and compliance, preferably within a professional services or accounting firm.
  • Strong working knowledge of South African tax laws, regulations, and SARS procedures.
  • Experience with tax software (e.g., GreatSoft, CaseWare, or similar).
  • Excellent communication, client relationship, and negotiation skills.
  • High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Strong leadership skills with a passion for mentoring and developing junior staff.
