Job Description
ENVIRONMENT:
PLAY a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient management, security, and optimisation of the SQL Server databases of a cutting-edge Tech company in Durban wanting you as its next Mid-Tier DBA. Your expertise in database management, SSAS, scripting, automation, performance tuning, and data security compliance is instrumental in maintaining a high-performing database environment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet data requirements and document best practices.
DUTIES:
Database Management
- Manage and maintain the organisations SQL Server databases, ensuring high performance, availability, and security.
- Perform database upgrades, migrations, and patches as required.
- Monitor and optimise database performance, resolving any issues to ensure optimal performance of SSAS.
- Manage and co-ordinate scheduled jobs and related ETL processes to ensure on time daily completion.
- Ensure daily backups are scheduled and successful and be available to restore or support the backup process as required.
SSAS Expertise
- Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server Analysis Services cubes and data models.
- Optimise SSAS queries and calculations for efficient and fast data retrieval.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to SSAS cube processing and data refresh.
Scripting and Automation
- Develop and maintain scripts for automating database administration tasks.
- Create and optimise T-SQL scripts for data manipulation, ETL processes, and reporting purposes.
Performance Tuning
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in SQL Server databases and SSAS cubes.
- Implement indexing strategies, query optimisation techniques, and caching mechanisms for improved performance.
Security and Compliance
- Implement and maintain database security policies, access control, and data encryption.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to data security and privacy.
