Job Summary
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Pipe Welder using the SMAW process.
- Valid welding certification(s) in SMAW (e.g., AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, or equivalent) are preferred. Additional certifications in other welding processes are a plus.
- Relevant Trade Test certification.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols, ensuring accurate execution of welding tasks according to specifications.
- In-depth understanding of SMAW welding techniques, pipe preparation, and knowledge of industry codes and standards.
- Ability to lift heavy materials, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods. Must be comfortable working at heights or in challenging environments.
- Strong understanding of welding safety standards and regulations.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce clean, accurate, and structurally sound welds.
Responsibilities:
- SMAW Pipe Welding:
Perform welding of pipes and pipe components using the SMAW process (Stick welding) to join various metals such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials in a variety of industrial settings. - Blueprint and Welding Symbol Interpretation:
Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to ensure proper execution of welding tasks. Follow piping system schematics to determine exact specifications. - Pipe Preparation:
Prepare pipes for welding by cutting, beveling, cleaning, and aligning the workpieces to ensure proper fit-up and a secure weld. Use tools like grinders, pipe cutters, and bevelers as needed. - Weld Inspection and Quality Assurance:
Inspect completed welds for strength, quality, and appearance, ensuring they meet project and industry standards. Identify and rectify any defects or imperfections such as cracks, undercuts, or porosity. - System Assembly:
Weld and install pipes, flanges, elbows, valves, and other components into existing piping systems, ensuring proper alignment, fit, and function. - Safety Compliance:
Strictly adhere to all safety standards and guidelines. Ensure that the work area is safe and that proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used during welding operations. Follow OSHA and other regulatory standards. - Welding Process Setup and Maintenance:
Set up and adjust welding machines to ensure optimal performance based on the material being welded. Troubleshoot and maintain welding equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. - Collaboration with Other Trades:
Work closely with fitters, fabricators, and other welders to coordinate the installation of pipes and resolve any technical challenges on the job site. - Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of work completed, including inspection reports, materials used, and welding procedures followed.
