About the Role
The Accountant is responsible for the timely and accurate processing, reconciliation, and reporting of financial information. This position supports the Finance Department through the collection, validation, processing, and recording of financial data, working closely with internal stakeholders to ensure compliant, accurate financial statements and smooth transaction flow across the system.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Accounting
- Full bookkeeping and accounting function
- Maintenance of the general ledger and trial balance
- Supervision of debtors and creditors
- Management of sub-ledgers on Sage Evolution, including:
- Fixed Assets
- Job Costing
- Inventory
- VAT
- Cash management and bank oversight
- Preparation of management accounts
- Ensuring all financial reporting is accurate, complete, and compliant
2. Staff Management
- Manage and support a small finance team (Bookkeeper and Creditors Clerk)
3. Administration
- Custodian of financial filing systems and accounting record integrity
- Data management and control
- Liaise with suppliers regarding payments and cash flow
4. Relationship Management
- Collaborate with internal business teams and senior management
- Maintain strong relationships with service providers and suppliers
Education & Experience Requirements
Minimum:
- BCom Accounting Degree
- ±3 years’ experience in a similar full-function accounting role
Preferred:
- Completed SAICA articles (medium-sized firm advantageous)
Skills & Competencies Required
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and accounting standards
- Intermediate proficiency in Excel and MS Office
- Experience with Sage Evolution
- Excellent communication skills – clear, logical, and persuasive
- Leadership ability with emotional intelligence
- Highly organised, deadline-driven, and proactive
- Professional, service-orientated, and a strong team collaborator
