Position Overview
The Transport Manager will be responsible for the effective planning, coordination, and control of transport operations at the Meadowview DC. The role focuses on managing a large driver workforce, ensuring efficient route execution, compliance with labour legislation, and the safe delivery of multi-temperature products.
Please note: This role is strictly for Transport Management professionals. Fleet Managers will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee 100–200 drivers and van assistants
- Plan, allocate, and optimize delivery routes to ensure cost-effective and on-time deliveries
- Manage the distribution of multi-temperature products (ambient, chilled, frozen)
- Ensure compliance with NBCRFLI, including overtime, benefits, and shift management
- Control driver attendance, productivity, overtime, and disciplinary processes
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and road traffic regulations
- Monitor transport KPIs, delivery performance, and operational costs
- Coordinate with warehouse and distribution teams to align dispatch schedules
- Handle driver training, coaching, and performance management
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and delivery deviations and implement corrective actions
- Maintain accurate transport records, reports, and compliance documentation
Minimum Requirements
- Proven experience as a Transport Manager (not Fleet Management)
- Demonstrated ability to manage large driver teams (100+ staff)
- Strong knowledge of route planning and route optimization
- Experience working with multi-temperature FMCG or food distribution
- Solid understanding of NBCRFLI, labour relations, and overtime management
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced distribution environment
- Computer literacy (transport systems, reporting tools, Excel)
