Job Description
ENVIRONMENT:
One of SAs fastest growing Fintech brands is on the hunt for a Head of Data who will lead the groups Data function and will be accountable for delivery, governance adoption, and alignment with business priorities. The role focuses on leadership, execution, and clarity, rather than acting as a hands-on technical specialist.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and coordinate the Data function, including data engineering, BI/analytics, and data science.
- Own the data roadmap and delivery commitments in line with the group’s priorities.
- Ensure practical data governance, ownership, and accountability are embedded.
- Partner with Finance, Operations, and Group stakeholders on reporting and decision support.
- Lead, coach, and performance-manage the data team.
- Ensure data controls, access, and quality standards are applied.
- Communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly to senior stakeholders.
Operating Model
- The role leads outcomes, structure, and alignment across the Data function.
- Deep technical mentorship is provided by an internal Technical Lead within the team.
- External specialist support may be used selectively where needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors or masters in Data Science, computer science, statistics or any other related analytical field
- Advanced degrees: MBA or masters in information systems are highly beneficial for this strategic, leadership-focused role.
- Experience leading teams delivering data, analytics, or enterprise systems.
- Strong change management and governance implementation capability.
- Comfortable working with senior executives and technical specialists.
- Clear, structured communicator with a focus on outcomes.
- Experience in complex or regulated environments is an advantage.
- Hands-on coding or deep technical expertise is not required.
