About the Role

The Armature Winder is a critical role in bringing electric motors to life by skillfully winding, repairing, and rebuilding armatures, stators, and coils. This hands-on role requires precision and attention to detail to power performance, reliability, and pride in every finished motor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervisor to verify correct material to be used in accordance with the customer specification.
  • Perform electrical winding and rewinding of traction motors, generators, and other rotating electrical equipment used in rail applications.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair faults in windings, coils, and insulation systems.
  • Ensure adherence to technical specifications and manufacturer guidelines during winding and repair processes.
  • Assemble rewound components, ensuring proper alignment and balancing of rotor and stator assemblies.
  • Conduct electrical and mechanical tests to verify the integrity and performance of rewound equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues identified during testing to ensure quality and reliability.
  • Participate in the maintenance and overhaul of traction motors and related equipment according to scheduled maintenance plans.
  • Clean, lubricate, and replace worn or damaged components as necessary to extend equipment life and maintain optimal performance.

Requirements

  • Matric Certificate.
  • Proven experience as a Winder or similar role in electrical winding and repair, preferably within the rail industry.
  • Certification or vocational training in electrical engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations applicable to electrical equipment and maintenance.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits, inspections, or project assignments.
