Main purpose of the job: To conduct clinical research activities mainly death and discharge summary ICD coding, and quality assurance for observational research studies Location: Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (CHBAH) Key performance areas: Clinical Research Strategic application of clinical skills in the execution of observational studies i.e. assisting in devising systems and processes to ensure effective and efficient study conduct in liaison with programme and organisation management Stay abreast of literature relevant to research activities within the organisation that may directly affect the study Assist with study-related procedures such as sample collection as and when required Research Data, Quality Assurance and Administration Proficiently search NHLS Lab Trak and print patient results. Accurately abstract information from the clinical notes and antemortem lab results to the database/s Code discharge and death summaries for BMDH, CHBAH and other relevant sites using ICD-10/11 Code community deaths using ICD-10/11 and ensure efficient delivery to the data-capturing team Liaise with the data management team to maintain continuous capture of discharge and death summaries for BMDH and CHBAH as required Assist the data management team in the reconciliation of death summaries between the PNS and MITS team Generate and verify all applicable logs and study progress trackers (including but not limited to missing deaths lists,) Drive quality assurance framework and ensure research quality processes are internally monitored through performance of quality assurance of study file source data, i.e. clinical source notes and CRFs Perform quality checks using electronic registries such as 1beat and SQL databases Support study administration and project management as required, including compliance, reporting and planning Support and maintain reports as required, including progress reports on compliance, data management oversight reports and any reports required by investigators in support of study deliverables Maintain the site files (where applicable), review regularly, complete and submit relevant documents and maintenance in collaboration with project management Present daily and weekly statistics to the principal investigator and senior study personnel as and when required Staff Management Manage staff effectively including duties, performance, conduct efficient working, processes and corrective action as required Assist in the leadership of cross-functional teams to promote productivity within projects Work with management to empower and develop teams or individuals as skills needs or deficiencies are identified Create an environment that promotes talent recognition, development as well as agency and individual leadership Mentor, coach and facilitate personal and professional staff development wherever possible Ensure teams comply with policies, unit standards and administrative and internal communications requirements Customer Service and Stakeholder Relations Build and maintain authentic, professional relationships and communicate effectively and efficiently with all internal and external stakeholders (suppliers, collaborators, researchers, donors, etc) Train staff effectively;
