Johannesburg: Dredging / Marine Engineer – Expat opportunity – Nigeria

A Dredging and Marine Engineer is a technical specialist responsible for the mechanical, electrical, and operational systems of dredging vessels and maritime equipment. While a Project Manager focuses on high-level timelines and client liaison, the Engineer ensures the actual machineryincluding complex pumps, cutters, and propulsion systemsoperates at peak efficiency. Core Responsibilities Operational Control: Operate and monitor specialized equipment like cutter suction and jet suction to remove sediment and debris according to precise project depths. Technical Maintenance: Direct the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all engines, hydraulic systems, and ancillary machinery onboard to minimize project downtime. Vessel Integrity: Oversee the functionality of internal systems including electrical, navigational, and safety-critical features like hull monitoring. Environmental Stewardship: Ensure all operations comply with strict maritime and environmental regulations. Typical Daily Duties Conducting pre-operational inspections of pumps, engines, and dredging instruments. Supervising engine room and deck crew during maintenance or equipment repairs. Maintaining detailed technical logs regarding fuel consumption, equipment running hours, and repair histories. Key Requirements & Qualifications Education: A Bachelor””s degree in Marine Engineering , Ocean Engineering , or Mechanical Engineering is typically required. Experience: Most roles require 57 years of experience specifically in dredging or large-scale marine operations. Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in engine maintenance, hydraulic and electrical systems Soft Skills: Strong real-time problem-solving abilities and the capacity to lead multidisciplinary teams in challenging offshore environments. Salary: 6000 – 7000USD pm plus 500USD pm for daily expenses, accomodation, car and driver, life insurance and medical aid. 2 flights per annum home for 2 weeks break at a time.
