Job Summary: Medical Academic is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our editorial team as a Medical Content Creator. The position will be based in Woodmead, Johannesburg. In this specialised role, you will focus on producing high-quality scientific and factual content while receiving training and mentorship from an experienced Medical Editor. What Were Looking For: We understand that medical editing is a scarce skill in South Africa, so were not necessarily looking for someone with prior editing experience. Instead, we’re seeking an individual who has the technical aptitude, expertise, and curiosity to excel in this niche. If you have experience in research, academia, laboratory work, or writing medical research papers, we want to hear from you. Your strong research and referencing abilities will form the foundation for success in this role, along with your willingness to be mentored by an expert in the field. Engagement with doctors and pharmaceutical stakeholders is a large part of this role, so professionalism and confidence are key. Key Responsibilities: Content Creation Develop scientific, factual, and engaging medical content for doctors to read, watch and engage with. Create articles and quizzes for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) that meet the standards of accuracy and relevance for doctors and specialists. Research and curate medical topics that resonate with industry stakeholders and retain audience interest. Relationship Management & Communication Collaborate and build relationships with doctors, specialists, and key stakeholders in the pharmaceutical industry to gather insights and develop focus areas for the publication. Conduct and manage professional interviews with thought leaders in medicine for webinars or publication. Engage with advertisers to understand and align-on editorial topics and objectives. Webinars & Engagement Confidently host and present webinars tailored to a specialist audience. Prepare and liaise with speakers to ensure impactful and productive sessions. Coordinate with the digital and commercial teams to produce newsletters and website articles that grow Medical Academics database. Training & Mentorship Work closely with an experienced Medical Editor to be trained and mentored for success in this role. Develop and sharpen your skills in medical editing under the guidance of an experienced editor. Required Education, Skills & Attributes: A Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as: Medical/Health Sciences Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related scientific discipline Journalism, Communications (plus experience in writing research papers) Strong aptitude for scientific research, referencing, and factual writing. Interest and passion for the medical and scientific field. Well-developed communication and organisational skills. Confidence to host webinars and engage professionally with medical audiences. Proficient in conceptualising and planning topics and focus areas for publication/webinars with senior stakeholders. Digital literacy and ability to collaborate on newsletters, database growth initiatives, and digital team tasks. Willingness to be trained, mentored, and grow into a specialised editing role. Desirable Qualities (Bonus Points) Any prior writing or editing experience in a medical, research, or academic context. Knowledge of CPD or the requirements for professional medical development resources. Experience interacting and communicating with pharmaceutical professionals.
