The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee and coordinate the departments operations, ensuring efficiency, alignment with company objectives, and continuous improvement. The role involves managing a team of 19, production planning, quality, and interdepartmental coordination while fostering a strong team culture and ensuring compliance with company policies and safety regulations. This role requires a proactive leader with strong organisational and problem-solving skills, capable of ensuring efficient production operations while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to Operational & Production Management Plan, prioritise, and coordinate production schedules and task allocation. Oversee and coordinate departmental process trials and changes. Ensure shift-to-shift coordination for seamless operations. Ensure correct work commencement and execution to meet production goals and schedule dates. Record, track, and report daily production results. Drive cost reduction initiatives and continuous improvement projects. Coordinate activities around major production changes. Ensure ongoing continuous improvement projects. Ensure availability of parts, tools, and materials as required. Team Leadership & Development Promote and maintain a positive team culture and morale. Respond to, investigate, and resolve challenges encountered by team members. Facilitate work-group sessions as required. Provide and oversee the development of training, cross-training, and coaching for team members. Quality, Safety & Compliance Confirm quality by routine checks. Ensure compliance with company policies, attendance, and corrective action procedures. Maintain oversight of departmental safety practices and ensure adherence to safety regulations. Supervise daily clean-up and tidying within the department. Ensure on-the-floor tool/machine checks and daily maintenance. Audit and coach standardised work (Construction Manual / SOPs). Interdepartmental & External Coordination Coordinate support from external departments (e.g. R&D, Stores, Maintenance, etc.). Facilitate collaboration with upstream and downstream departments. Coordinate major maintenance activities affecting the department. Performance Monitoring & Reporting Capture data and report on KPIs, ensuring targets set by the Production Manager are met. Develop, implement, and report on corrective action plans where KPIs and targets are not achieved. Essential requirements: Matric/ Grade 12 or equivalent Upholstery background is non negotiable A minimum of 5-years experience in a managerial role MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) Strong administrative skills and structured approach Strong troubleshooting skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational and time management skills High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
