• HE2RO seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic and self-motivated quantitative Researcher (Level 1)/ PhD Fellow to be part of their epidemiology portfolio
• This fellowship aims to support one outstanding candidate in pursuing a PhD in applied psychology, as well as research in intervention development and evaluation
• The successful applicant will be part of a team of researchers working on cutting-edge public health research questions that contribute to the evidence base for improving access to and delivery of health services for HIV, TB and other health challenges
• The successful candidate will work closely with leading researchers at HE²RO and collaborate with national and international experts
• The position is based in Johannesburg but may require travel primarily within Sub-Saharan Africa and possibly globally
• Overtime/weekend hours and working in rural areas and/or under-resourced circumstances will be required from time to time
• This is a fixed-term contract

Responsibilities and

• Develop and implement a research plan, including data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings
• Contribute to research development, design, and implementation
• Preparing ethics applications for ethic committee review and adhering to ethics guidelines and protocols
• Data collection and management involves:
  • Developing standard operating procedures for data collection
  • Creating data entry databases and collaborating with data capturers to gather high-quality data
  • Organising and conducting data monitoring
  • Creating analytical datasets
• Lead and manage stakeholder engagement initiatives at district, provincial, and national levels
• Collaborating with senior researchers and principal investigators to develop original research manuscripts and abstracts for publication and presentation
• Working in an interdisciplinary team environment

• Master’s Degree in Public Health, Applied Psychology or related field
• Minimum of 5 years of research experience or comparable professional experience
• Strong experience in managing high-stakes stakeholder engagement and advocacy work
• Excellent academic writing and communication skills
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Experience in using various research methodological designs
• Good project management and administrative skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Willingness to travel locally for 1 to 2 weeks at a time
• Code 8 Drivers License (active driver)
