Job Summary

Responsible for Project Management, Coordination of Multi-disciplinary Project Teams, and Project Delivery

  • Managing teams composed of members from different disciplines, ensuring their coordination and collaboration towards project goals.
  • Ensure that iX project start-up processes are followed, and the project scoping is clear and approved. Prepare and evaluate alternative concept designs, prepare reports and estimates and liaise with other professionals, both internally and externally.
  • Develop detail designs, manage the preparation of drawings, and prepare tender documentation. Facilitate and assist with the tender and adjudication process leading up to contractor appointment and site hand over. If required, act as the project discipline Lead Engineer.

Budget Management

  • Handling project budgets, resource allocation, and potentially outsourcing project work when necessary. This may also involve negotiating project budgets with other sections or stakeholders.

Authoring Technical Reports

  • Preparing technical reports that meet quality standards in terms of technical content and presentation. These reports are often used for documentation and communication purposes.

Quality Control

  • Reviewing and checking the work produced by team members to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements and standards.

Presentation and Representation

  • Presenting technical work to stakeholders, clients, or higher management. Representing the project or organization in meetings or discussions related to the project.

Bid Responses

  • Preparing responses to bids or proposals for new projects, ensuring that they are well-structured and competitive.

Business Development and Support

  • Attend tender briefings, providing inputs into tender documentation, writing method statements, assisting with pricing calculations and providing general support during tender processes as and when required.
  • Regularly communicating with clients, addressing their needs, and building strong client relationships. This may involve discussing business technologies and markets.
  • These responsibilities demonstrate a combination of project management, technical expertise, client relations, and leadership skills typically required in roles that involve managing complex projects in technical or engineering fields.

Internal Project Management, Health and Safety, Administration and Quality Management Procedures

  • Comply with company procedures and processes in terms of project registration and risk analysis.
  • Comply with Quality procedures by ensuring auditable trail of actions during full life cycle of project delivery process all in accordance with company Quality Management Procedures.
  • Comply with and embrace Health and Safety requirements in the workplace as well as on construction sites.

Project Delivery

  • Ensure that iX project start-up processes are followed, and the project scoping is clear and approved.
  • Prepare and evaluate alternative concept designs, prepare reports, and estimates and liaise with other professionals, both internally and externally.
  • Develop detail designs, manage the preparation of drawings, and prepare tender documentation.
  • Facilitate and assist with the tender and adjudication process leading up to contractor appointment and site hand over.
  • If required, act as the project discipline Lead Engineer.
  • Monitor and manage construction activities including:
    1. Attending site and inspection meetings.
    2. Managing changes to work scope.
    3. Managing installation quality and compliance with specifications.
    4. Managing contract finances including valuations and payment certifications.
    5. Managing and witnessing testing and commissioning of works.
    6. Managing close out of project.

Training and Mentoring

  • Participating in continuous professional development training in order to maintain professional registration.
  • Assisting with training and mentoring of others who are registered as in-training engineers/technologists.

  • Maintain good working relations with all stakeholders, both internal and external to the company, and always demonstrate professionalism.
  • Interact with leaders and peers in such a way to command respect and to grow leadership skills.
  • Be motivated and driven to take on the succession planning role as required.

EDUCATION, LANGUAGE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.Tech / B. Eng degree in electrical engineering.
  • Professional Registration with ECSA.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills.
  • Own transport/vehicle for site/meeting use.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 5 years technical and practical experience in Infrastructure projects including medium and low voltage reticulation and distribution.
  • Technical and practical engineering skills in the Control & Instrumentation (C&I) field will be highly beneficial.
  • A sound knowledge of the fundamental requirements of the discipline, and the basic requirements of other disciplines.
  • Proven ability to execute designs, work as part of a team.
  • Diligent and able to work under consistent pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Design accuracy and attention to detail is crucial.
  • Good problem-solving skills and application of engineering judgement.
  • Client focused (both internal and external clients).
  • Good financial acumen in project planning, control, and execution. Experience in preparing Bills of Quantities.
  • A sound knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements, i.e. SANS 10142.
  • A sound knowledge of MS OFFICE software is essential such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Projects etc.
  • A sound knowledge of REVIT or AUTOCAD software is essential.
  • Working knowledge of network/line design software (Retic Master)
  • Knowledge of grid modelling software (DigSilent, Homer) is advantageous.
  • Experience in Renewable Energy projects is advantageous.
  • A working knowledge of the various construction framework contracts is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years technical and practical experience, post qualification, in Infrastructure projects including medium and low voltage reticulation,  distribution networks, substations, SSEG and/or Control & Instrumentation (C&I) is required.
