General Manager (Agricultural Retail) – Johannesburg
Key Responsibilities The General Manager will be responsible for all business activities in the South African market, focusing on achieving revenue, profitability targets and market share expansion. These include: Full responsibility for the P&L Full accountability of the local operations Providing strong strategic plans and vision for the expansion of the business Supporting and executing sales and marketing activities, identifying new market opportunities Negotiating customer trading terms at a senior national level Managing external 3PL warehousing and logistics service providers Developing and executing a clear growth strategy that drives revenue, increases market share, and ensures profitability Managing the performance of employees, improving internal processes to ensure employees work as a cohesive team Fostering a high-performance team culture by inspiring, developing and engaging employees, ensuring alignment with the business goals Nurturing, developing and maintaining strong relationships with customers Exploring geographic expansion into SADC countries Mentoring and developing direct reports and all staff, supporting an inclusive culture Ensuring compliance with Group policies and local legislation Qualifications/Experience: Proven experience as a General Manager or similar role In depth knowledge and experience in the retail market Business to business experience within a related industry Financially astute with the ability to manage the P&L Excellent organisational, analytical, problem-solving ability and strong leadership skills Experience in developing and executing business strategies to drive revenue and profitability Excellent negotiating skills at a national and senior level Skills and Capabilities: Strong decision-making skills with a results driven mindset, experience in expanding market presence and identifying new business opportunities Deep understanding of sales management, marketing strategies, and business development. Experience in working with traditional and e-commerce channels (Dealers, DIY retailers, Food retailers) Strong understanding of financial management, budgeting, forecasting and cost control to ensure business profitability Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including external suppliers and customers. Strong communication and negotiation skills to build trust and long-term partnerships Strong project management skills to drive operational efficiency.
