Job Summary
Hire Resolve`s client, a plastic injection moulding company, is seeking an experienced Tooling/Toolroom Manager to lead their manufacturing operations. This role is critical in ensuring production processes run smoothly by designing and maintaining tools such as jigs, fixtures, clamps, and moulds. The suitable candidate will oversee toolroom operations, manage teams, and drive process improvements while maintaining top-notch quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities:
Management:
- Lead the toolroom team to ensure tools are delivered efficiently, on time, and meet quality standards.
- Implement and maintain production planning systems.
- Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Promote and implement Lean/Six Sigma principles and 5S methodology.
- Conduct root cause analyses and resolve tooling-related issues.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Strategy & Development:
- Develop best practices for toolroom operations to improve performance.
- Identify business improvement opportunities.
- Assess the impact of new equipment and tool designs on performance.
Technical Operations:
- Provide technical advice on tooling design, manufacturing, and estimating.
- Supervise toolroom activities, ensuring safety and quality.
- Oversee tool manufacturing, repair, and maintenance.
- Manage procedural arrangements for tool storage, quality assurance, and optimization.
- Utilize CAD and CNC programming for tool design and production.
People Management:
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team.
- Set and monitor departmental objectives.
- Train and mentor apprentices and junior technicians.
Financial Oversight:
- Manage toolroom budgets and drive cost-reduction initiatives.
- Ensure projects are delivered within budget without compromising quality.
Relationship Management:
- Build strong relationships with internal teams, customers, and suppliers.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize tooling strategies and outcomes.
Requirements:
Education:
- Qualified Toolmaker specializing in plastic injection moulds.
- N5 or N6 Engineering (or equivalent).
Experience:
- 15-20 years in tooling, including expertise in toolmaking and injection mould maintenance.
- 5-10 years in managerial roles within a similar environment.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM solutions (e.g., SolidWorks, EdgeCAM, MasterCAM).
- Expertise in hot and cold runner systems, fine tolerances, and mold modifications.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming and milling features.
Software Knowledge:
- MS Office.
- MS PWA or similar project planning tools.
