Responsibilities:
Crane Operation & Lifting Activities: Operate mobile, overhead, or crawler cranes to lift, move, and position heavy loads as per work requirements. Ensure compliance with lifting plans, rigging procedures, and mine safety protocols. Perform pre-operational inspections and daily safety checks on cranes and lifting equipment. Accurately interpret load charts and determine crane lifting capacities. Coordinate with riggers, signallers, and supervisors to execute safe and efficient lifts. Safety Compliance: Adhere to Sasol mine safety regulations and South African mining industry standards (MHSA, OHS Act). Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and hazard identification processes. Participate in daily toolbox talks and risk assessments before starting operations. Report any safety hazards, incidents, or equipment malfunctions immediately. Maintenance and Equipment Management: Conduct routine maintenance checks and minor repairs on cranes to ensure optimal functionality. Ensure all lifting gear (slings, shackles, chains, etc.) is certified and in good condition. Maintain accurate logbooks and equipment records as per Sasol mine requirements. Operational Efficiency & Compliance: Execute lifting tasks within set timelines while ensuring safety and efficiency. Work in collaboration with the mining, logistics, and engineering teams for effective load handling. Ensure all lifting operations are performed in line with Sasol and industry best practices. Emergency Preparedness: Respond appropriately to emergency situations such as mechanical failures or load instability. Participate in emergency drills and safety training programs as required. Key Competencies: Certification: Valid Crane Operator License (CETA-accredited or equivalent) & Medical Fitness Certificate. Knowledge of Regulations: Strong understanding of MHSA, OHS Act, and Sasol site safety protocols. Technical Skills: Ability to operate different types of cranes (mobile, overhead, truck-mounted, etc.). Proficiency in reading load charts and understanding crane capacity limits. Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills. Safety Awareness: High attention to safety procedures, hazard identification, and risk assessment. Communication Skills: Ability to work with teams, follow instructions, and communicate effectively with riggers and supervisors. Physical Fitness: Must be physically capable of working in a demanding mining environment. Problem-Solving Ability: Quick decision-making skills in high-risk situations. This role requires a high level of responsibility, compliance with strict safety regulations, and experience working in a Sasol mine environment. Top of Form Bottom of Form Experience & Qualification 2 to 3 years working experience in the mining industry. Medically fit. Sasol Mining Induction compulsive .
