Job Summary
BUILDING MATERIALS BUYER
Mafriq is a Mauritian based international trading house specializing in the trade of FMCG`s, fruit and vegetables, meat, wines and building materials to various countries throughout the world
We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated professional to join our Procurement team as a Building Materials Buyer. The candidate will be responsible for overseeing the procurement of building materials and commodity items like plywood, wood, steel and construction material
Key responsibilities include the following:
- Procure and source building materials internationally.
- Build strategic relationships with new and existing suppliers (locally and internationally).
- Problem solving and claim resolution
- Negotiation of pricing and settlement discounts
- Identify product opportunities in new and existing markets

Experience and skills:
- Procurement knowledge: understanding of procurement principles, processes and best practices. Understanding of pricing, claims and value chains.
- Industry experience: Familiarity with building materials, construction industry trends and market dynamics.
- Supply chain management: knowledge of supply chain operations, logistics and inventory management.
- Export knowledge: previous experience working in an export environment and a good working knowledge of incoterms.
- Negotiation and Communication: Effective communication and negotiation skills to deal with suppliers (payment terms, pricing deals, settlement discounts and rebates)
- Proficiency in English is required and French would be a bonus.
- Analytical skills: Ability to analyse market trends, pricing and supplier performance.
Qualifications:
- 5 years experience in the Building Material Procurement industry
- A degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management or a related field.
- Understanding of Exports and Logistics would be advantageous
- Proven negotiation skills
- Successful track record of buying
- Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
