Job Summary
Position: Buyer Location: Based in Cape Town (with travel required) If you have strong negotiating skills, a passion for fresh produce, and experience working with suppliers and farmers, we want to hear from you. As a Buyer, you will be pivotal in managing and expanding the supply network to meet growing production demands, negotiating prices, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality fruit and packaging materials. Responsibilities:
Supply Network Expansion: Maintain and grow the supply base of fruit and packaging materials to ensure we meet yearly production requirements. Supplier Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, packers, and packaging suppliers through regular visits and communication across South Africa. Price Negotiation & Contracting: Manage seasonal negotiations, purchasing, and contracts with suppliers to secure competitive pricing. Coordination: Collaborate with production, logistics, quality, and planning teams to ensure raw materials are supplied on time to meet production schedules. Market Insights: Assess local market conditions and identify new supply opportunities. Share insights on availability, pricing, and crop outlook with the sales team. ERP Management: Manage and maintain purchase prices, orders, and contracts in our ERP system (Sage, SAP, Pastel Evolution). Sustainability: Work towards improving the sustainability of our supply chain and reputation in the farming community. Qualifications: Experience: At least 4 years of experience in fruit or vegetable buying, preferably in an industrial setting. Education: Degree in Agriculture or B-Com with an agricultural background. Travel: Willingness to travel regularly within South Africa, with overnight stays required. ERP Systems: Experience with ERP systems like Sage, SAP, or Pastel Evolution. Driving: Own car and a valid drivers license. Languages: Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in Afrikaans or other languages is a plus. Competitive compensation package
