Job Title: Debt Recovery Legal Assistant Reports to: Head of Legal
Salary:
R20k – R30k per month, depending on experience Location: Cape Town, Hybrid Role Overview Our client is a fast-growing fintech lending to small and medium-sized businesses in the UK. We have an exciting opportunity for a graduate to join our UK Clients Legal department as a debt recovery Legal Assistant. The successful candidate will work closely with the Collections team taking instructions on problematic customer accounts and seeking to reach a resolution with customers wherever possible. Candidates must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be confident in dealing with difficult customers. You will need to be a team player that thrives in a busy and progressive work environment with excellent prioritization and organization skills. Key Responsibilities Manage the pre-legal process for cases referred from the collections team Draft and send formal legal notices to clients with unresolved payment issues Handle client communications (via calls and emails) to work toward a resolution Escalate cases to solicitors or paralegals when required Maintain accurate case documentation Professionally manage interactions with difficult clients Provide administrative support to the legal team Requirements Finance or Legal related degree (non-negotiable) 2-3 years of experience (preferably financial/legal/lending background) Strong written and verbal communication skills Confidence in handling challenging conversations with clients Ability to remain composed when dealing with difficult or rude clients Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment Proactive, solution-focused mindset Other benefits include: Contributory pension Discretionary bonus Company events Complimentary lunch (Fridays)
