About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Field Guide to join a vibrant team at a private luxury game reserve located approximately 1.5 hours from Pretoria. The reserve is home to an impressive variety of plains game, including Eland, Giraffe, and Zebra, as well as Buffalo and Hippo. It also operates a specialised rare-species breeding programme, featuring Sable, Impala variants, and Golden Wildebeest. We are looking for someone who genuinely loves the bush and thrives in a close-knit, family-orientated, and fun working environment built on teamwork and trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Game guiding duties (including game drives and guided bush walks)
  • Breeding programme supervision and involvement (including darting, capturing, dipping, deworming, and feeding)
  • Supervising and supporting a small team of four staff members within the breeding programme department
  • Assisting with lodge and reserve-related maintenance
  • Providing exceptional customer service to guests

Requirements

  • FGASA Field Guide NQF 2 / CATHSSETA NQF 2 or equivalent; PrDP / in process of receiving one; First Aid Level 1; 1 to 2 years guiding experience – mandatory
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Well-presented and energetic personality, enthusiastic and passionate about both Fauna and Flora
  • Flexible and hands-on team player willing to help in all areas

Qualifications

  • Completed FGASA Field Guide NQF 2 / CATHSSETA NQF 2 training or equivalent
  • Completed PrDP (if applicable)
  • First Aid Level 1 certificate
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (if applicable)

Salary & Benefits

  • R9,500.00 gross per month
  • Accommodation: VERY NICE private and secluded single accommodation with a small living area, kitchenette, and en-suite bathroom
  • Meals: Although meals are not included, the property is situated only 7km from the nearest town, allowing for easy shopping or town trips
  • Work/leave cycle: 2 days off per week worked, with the option to accumulate off days, combine them with annual leave, or arrange time off as needed
  • 15 leave days per annum
