Job Description
Policy Development:
- Formulate and update safety policies and procedures to align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
- Implement systems to ensure effective communication of safety guidelines throughout the organization
Compliance Oversight:
- Monitor and ensure adherence to local, state, and federal safety regulations
- Conduct regular audits to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement
Risk Management:
- Lead risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement mitigation strategies
- Collaborate with operational teams to integrate safety measures into daily activities
Training and Education:
- Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees at all levels
- Foster a culture of continuous learning by staying informed about emerging safety trends and technologies
Incident Investigation:
- Manage and conduct thorough investigations into accidents, incidents, or near misses
- Analyze root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence
Emergency Preparedness:
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, ensuring all personnel are adequately trained
- Coordinate drills to assess the effectiveness of emergency procedures
Safety Culture Promotion:
- Work with leadership to cultivate a safety-conscious culture throughout the organization
- Encourage employee engagement and participation in safety initiatives
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Relevant safety certification
- 3 years plus of progressive safety management experience in mining or heavy industry (Proven track record of successful safety program development and implementation)
- In-depth understanding of safety regulations applicable to the mining industry
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey safety information effectively
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and inspire a safety-focused culture
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for incident investigations and risk assessments
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and navigate dynamic operational environments
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence safety initiatives at all levels
