South Africa: Senior Hardware Engineer (E/I)

Key Responsibilities: Design and specify electrical installations (E/I) for bridges, locks, and/or railway infrastructure. Draft, review, and assess electrical diagrams, drawings, and cable calculations. Select hardware components and prepare bills of materials (BOM). Ensure compliance with relevant standards, including NEN1010, NEN3140, NEN-EN-IEC 62061, and ISO 13849. Apply safety standards such as SIL and PL in design and implementation. Coordinate with software, mechanical, and civil engineering teams within projects. Supervise installation, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and commissioning on site. Prepare technical documentation and risk assessments in accordance with the Machinery Directive. Requirements / Profile: Completed higher professional education in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience as a Hardware Engineer within infrastructure projects. Experience with bridges and/or locks is required; railway bridge experience is a plus. In-depth knowledge of machine safety, SIL/PL, and Machinery Directive or EU Machinery Regulation. Proficiency in engineering tools such as EPLAN (mandatory). Knowledge of motion control systems, motors, frequency controllers, and PLC interfaces. Strong analytical skills, detail-oriented, and solution-focused. Excellent communication skills in Afrikaans (Native) and English (spoken and written). Team-oriented, proactive, independent, and stress-resistant.
